Most fashion lovers prefer Fall and Winter because the temperatures are cooler, which means there’s greater flexibility with wardrobe and makeup choices. While I also prefer fall fashion, the positive side of summer beauty is embracing the minimalist side of style: lightweight makeup, easy fabrics, and low maintenance hair. If you’re staring at your current makeup collection filled with dark liquid lipsticks and full coverage foundation, this post is for you. I’m here to share 3 simple swaps to update your fall and winter makeup for the summer.

Swap the liquid lipstick for a lip gloss

Liquid lipstick is a makeup product favorite of mine. I’ve talked about and swatched ColourPop, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Coloured Raine, and other brands on the site. That being said, summer is the time to give the matte lips a break and opt for a lip with shine. During the hot summer days, a quick swipe of lip gloss will give your pout a subtle pop.

My lip gloss of choice is the Marc Jacobs Lip Lacquer Lip Gloss in Love Drunk.

Swap the full coverage foundation for a tinted moisturizer

After reviewing the original tinted moisturizer, I opted for the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint this summer. While we’re still in the “getting to know each other” phase, I have to say things are going really well. The weather is hitting triple digits on a regular basis here in Texas so finding a lightweight alternate to my usual foundation was a must. Tinted moisturizer is a major key in the summer if you want to avoid the gross and sticky “my face is melting” feeling.

If you’re prone to oiliness, look for a tinted moisturizer with a matte finish. While a matte look doesn’t shout summer, the oils in your skin coupled with a matte tinted moisturizer will result in a natural finish.

Swap the contour for a highlighter

The motto this summer is glow baby glow! Embrace the sun, embrace the shine, and embrace the light makeup with glowing cheeks. Instead of contouring those cheekbones, accentuate the high points of your cheeks with a golden highlighter. When the sun hits your face, get ready for the ultimate glow.

There are so many good highlighters on the market right now, but Bobbi Brown’s Bronze Glow Highlighting Powder is what I reach for when I want the ultimate shine.
