Hi, I'm Chelsey

MakeupGeek-makeup-review

I was finally able to get my hands on the eyeshadow shades I wanted to try from Makeupgeek’s collection. Even though the ones that came in the case were still out of stock, I decided to purchase the pan versions since they were newly available. Let me also start by saying the real driver behind this purchase was the hope of finding a dupe for Too Faced Chocolate Bar’s “Salted Caramel” shade, as I use it daily and don’t want it to run out.

Product: MakeupGeek Eyeshadow and Blush

Price: Eyeshadow ($5.99 for the pan, $7.99 for the compact) Blush ($9.99 for the pan, $12.99 for the compact)

Shades Purchased:

  1. Creme Brulee – The shade that I hoped would be the dupe for Salted Caramel. (It’s not exact, of course, but it really is the closest I’ve been able to find.) This is a good transitional and all over lid color. Great for blending.
  2. Peach Smoothie – This one is more of a light beige matte shade with peach undertones. I shy away from cool tones, so the peach in this warms up the eye. For lighter skin tones, this would be pretty on the lid. For me, I like to wear it as a muted highlight color.
  3. Chickadee – A matte orange shade with yellow undertones.
  4. Cocoa Bear – A warm, rich matte brown with red undertones. It’s my favorite because it’s very difficult for me to find a deep brown that isn’t cool. This shade works well for darkening the outer corner.
  5. Rendezvous (Blush) – A matte magenta shade with cool undertones. While I shy away from cool on the lid, I wanted to try out a purple blush.

Overall thoughts:

I’m really pleased with the products overall. The colors on the site are darker than how the appear in person, but each shadow is accompanied by a swatch picture that more accurately displays the color, which is also a little more bold than reality. I’ve found these shadows apply best when using the pat method with a dense brush, rather than swiping across the lid. Because they’re so smooth, they blend very easily. As with all shadows, you should use an eyeshadow primer at minimum to keep the lasting power. For a bigger color impact, I would also use either a paint pot or NYX jumbo pencil. I unfortunately didn’t think to buy a shimmer shadow. All of my picks are matte, and from what I’ve seen, the shimmery shades are even more buttery smooth. My biggest cons have less to do with the actual product and more to do with the availability. The supply is not sufficient for the demand. It’s a good problem as a seller to have as it means the product is doing very well, but it’s a tad frustrating as the consumer to want a product and it not be available. I really wanted to purchase more blushes, but every shade I wanted with the exception of Rendezvous was sold out. Hopefully MUG will be able to restock the blushes soon.

So where can you purchase it? On makeupgeek.com

**TIP** If you don’t want to pay for a Z palette, you can purchase an Elf Cosmetics quads for $1 at your local Target. I don’t like having large palettes and actually prefer for my shadows to remain as singles, but since I bought these in the pan I was on the hunt for a cheaper palette. Granted, the Elf palette doesn’t have a magnetized bottom, but it fits the shadows in perfectly without any falling…unless of course you were to hold it upside down with the lid open.
