I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest for the last few days, looking for home decor inspiration. I’m moving to a new place in a little over a month, and I’m so eager to get rid of everything and start from scratch. In a previous home decor post, I mentioned my love of minimalism. Whenever I decorate my home with color, I grow tired of it within a few months. Neutral and grayscale tones are evergreen in my home. Right now, I’m really into the idea of having a mixed metals theme, and I found some of the pictures below for inspiration. What do you think of the mixed metals trend?
Keep reading below to find out how you can easily mix metals in your home with a few decoration tips.
How to add Mixed Metals to your Home Decor
When it comes to mixing metals, there are 3 decor categories you can shop to meet your aesthetic needs: furniture, bedding, and small decor. I share a few of my picks from each category below, but the main goal is to ultimately stay within these 5 colors:
- Black
- White
- Silver
- Grey
- Gold
Furniture
The more long-term way to mix metals is by shopping for furniture in that style. It’s certainly more of an investment, but it’s a great option for those of you who know metals will always be the base of your decor style. Metals are still pretty neutral and easy to mix and match, so adding pops of color won’t be out of the realm of possibility if you ever change your mind. I personally love the chrome coffee table idea from the first picture in the post!

Bedding and Throws
Shopping for bedding, throws, and pillows is a more affordable way to add mixed metals to your home. While it works best if you already have muted or neutral furniture, you can still add mixed metals to a bright furniture set. Throw blankets are always available year round for a great price at places like Home Goods or TJ Maxx. If you want a more metallic or ombre style, Z Gallerie or West Elm will be your best bet. Pick up a throw blanket and toss it over your sofa to add a cozy, “lived-in” look. If you prefer bedding, I recommend checking out Z Gallerie for gold bed sets. To add the mixed metal vibe, toss in a silver decorative pillow as an accent.

Small Decorative Pieces
Lastly, the easiest and most versatile way to incorporate mixed metals in your home is by shopping for metal decorative pieces. They’re small, portable, and typically more affordable than the larger home decor items so you have more options available while shopping. Add a few tabletop pieces to your coffee table like a stack of silver books or a gold picture frame.

All in all, what do you think of mixed metals at home? I love that it adds color and dimension while still maintaining a modern aesthetic.
