Welcome to the first post of 2018! I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve! With this being the first post of the new year, styling a graphic tee featuring the streets of NYC felt appropriate. I skipped out on NYC to go to California last year, so here’s to making NYC a 2018 goal!

I love being able to layer clothing during the colder seasons, but the kind of temperature drop we’ve experienced over the last week always highlights the holes in my wardrobe. There were snow flurries in my hometown just hours after I left, and it was so cold that my car door was nearly frozen shut. Since I live in Texas, I don’t have a lot of “all day” cold clothes. (“All day” = things I can wear for the full day without getting overheated.)
Even though I would have preferred to add some color to this look with a denim or printed jacket, the weather called for heavy duty outerwear. Topshop’s faux fur coat is easily my warmest winter jacket. I purchased it a year or two ago and can only wear it out comfortably a few times per year, but I still consider it a staple.
Not all faux fur coats are created equal, and I say this from experience. Prior to finding this insulated option, I owned a faux fur coat from a different retailer. Unfortunately, it seemed like that coat was more for show than for function. The coat was so lightweight it was almost like wearing your standard leather jacket–hardly any insulation.
Quick Tips for Wearing Faux Fur
While this was my first fur coat purchase from Topshop, I’m willing to bet the rest of their faux fur selections are just as insulated based on the price point. If you’re longing for a fur coat that looks stylish and keeps you warm, see if Topshop meets your needs.
Faux fur can intimidate some people, but don’t let it scare you! You can avoid that feeling of looking “extra” by wearing this statement coat with simple outfits–think solid cotton tops and durable denim. Balance is the key to life and fashion, so just make sure you balance out your outfits and you can wear anything you like!
