Let’s get into beauty this week, okay? It’s been a while since we covered beauty-related content here on the blog, and I’ve nailed down my must-have spring beauty products in that time. After diving into the year-round closet essentials last week, I started thinking about the must-have products for your beauty cabinet. With a new season right around the corner, now is the perfect time to take stock of your makeup bag and ensure you have these spring beauty products.
With a lot of modern items, aesthetic packaging tends to take precedence over a quality product. What I love about the products mentioned today is they check both boxes: the quality is there and the packaging is photo-ready. P.S. Some of these products are also featured on the new shop page as part of my monthly favorites, be sure to check it out and shop around to help support the site!
Summer Fridays Lip Balm
One of the original beauty bloggers, Marianna Hewitt, really nailed what it takes to launch a successful beauty product line. I’ve followed the brand since its inception and without question, the Summer Fridays lip balm is the star product from the beauty brand. What makes this lip balm great aside from the sleek and gorgeous packaging is the formula. Ultimately, the formula is precisely what I like in a balm. It’s hydrating without being overly glossy in its finish, but it’s more noticeable than your traditional chapstick. This lip balm is a must-have for fellow vanilla lovers as well because the scents fall on the warm and spicy side.
Summer Fridays Sunscreen
Keeping with the same brand, you can’t mention beauty without shouting out an SPF. Of the seven products mentioned today, this one is on the newer side for me but I’m really liking it. The formula is lightweight and perfect to wear under makeup. A few other SPFs worth checking out if this one doesn’t quite speak to you are Goop’s Unseen Sunscreen and Black Girl Sunscreen, both products I’ve used and liked in the past.
Rare Beauty Compact Mirror
Every bag needs a travel-sized mirror, and Rare Beauty currently sells the best option. The packaging of their Blot & Glow Touch-Up Kit is sleek and the mirror is larger than traditional round options. I picked this up as an oily-skin girl for the oil-blotting sheets that are included, but I have to admit they aren’t my favorite. Boscia has the best oil-blotting papers whereas the Rare Beauty papers are very small and thin. That said, the purchase is worth it for the mirror alone and I use it even when I don’t have blotting papers inside the compact.
Fenty Beauty Body Butter
Oversized totes are in style this season, so now is the perfect time to put a larger lotion like the Fenty Beauty Body Butter in your bag. The original scent is noticeable but not overpowering, which I tend to prefer when it comes to lotions. I use this more as an add-on lotion rather than my primary lotion because I don’t want it to run out too quickly, so it’s a perfect spring beauty pickup.
Laneige Vanilla Lip Mask
You can never have too many lip products, especially balms. Laneige was my go-to lip balm brand for years until I started swapping between them and Summer Fridays. I specifically recommend the Laneige Lip Mask in the Vanilla scent for an overnight lip treatment. It smells much better than the original scent and is an excellent mask for your night or morning routine. I even pop it in my bag sometimes because the finish has a line-filling sheen to it that I really like.
Skylar Vanilla Sky Perfume
Keeping with the vanilla love, another spring beauty product worth the hype is the Skylar Vanilla Sky Perfume. It’s my favorite scent to wear because of its versatility and warm aroma. I like to wear it alone on more subtle days, but I’ll often use it as a base and layer on a second perfume to create a unique scent. You can read all about my recommendations to help layer perfumes here.
Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Eye Cream
Last but not least is the eye cream of the season. After using Ole Henriksen for years, I wanted to try something new. The packaging of Laneige caught my eye, but the formula kept my attention. In terms of consistency, I’d equate it to Tatcha’s water cream if you’re familiar with that. It’s very lightweight so it doesn’t feel like it weighs down or tugs your eye upon application.
The Honorable Mentions
In addition to the seven products above, there are a few different beauty products that didn’t quite make the cut but are worth calling out if you have some extra room in your beauty budget. While the packaging isn’t as clean and minimal as the products mentioned above, the quality is definitely there.
- To get a fresh lip that doesn’t oversaturate with too much color, NARS Air Matte Liquid Lipstick has been my favorite. The whipped formula is buttery soft without being overly drying like traditional liquid lipsticks.
- For an even more natural lip, the NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil is perfect for an easy-to-apply lip color with a natural matte finish.
- If Summer Fridays lip balm scents aren’t your cup of tea, Laneige Lip Glowy Balm is an excellent choice! They have bright and fruity scents like peach or gummy bear to scratch the tropical itch.
