Hi, I'm Chelsey

Gone are the days of complex hairstyles. It’s nice to spend extra time getting ready every now and then, but fast makeup and hair routines are more practical for the average day. Below are 6 easy hairstyles to try on your natural hair, with only bobby pins and hair ties as the hair tools.

6 No-Fuss Hairstyles for Natural Hair

1. Wash and Go

Like the name implies, the super easy hairstyle is achieved by simply washing your hair and heading out the door. The key to a successful wash and go is knowing which products to use while your hair is still wet. After stepping out the shower, apply a leave-in conditioner, oil, and styling product of your choice. If at all possible, avoid any additional heat by skipping the blow dryer and letting your hair air dry for a few hours. Once your hair is mostly dry, use your fingers to scrunch and fluff out the volume. No time to spare? Add a diffuser attachment to your hair dryer to minimize frizz and diffuse your hair until it’s 80-90% dry. For added volume, flip your hair upside down while diffusing.

2. Half-Up Ponytail

This hairstyle is super easy and doesn’t require any additional  products, just a little water. If you want to wear your hair down but don’t like having the front part of your hair touching your face, secure the front with a mini ponytail. Use a little water to lay down any lumps and flyaways as you pull your bangs back into a ponytail. This hairstyle also lifts your face a bit so it gives off an awake and youthful appearance.

3. Half-Up Topknot

I’m a little biased with the half-up topknot hairstyle because I don’t like the way it looks on pin straight hair, but I love the style on textured hair. Natural curls add volume to the top knot without having to use a large portion of hair, so you still have enough left out for fullness. To achieve this look, you just need a hair tie and bobby pins. As you can see from the picture above, I wasn’t too concerned about the part and just used my fingers to section off the front part of my hair; however, feel free to use a rattail comb to section off your hair with a more precise line.

From there, pull the sectioned hair into a very high ponytail similar to the half-up ponytail look. Then loosely wrap the ponytail around the hair tie to create a voluminous top knot and secure with bobby pins. Add a little water and styling milk to the hair that’s left out if any pieces have lost curl definition.

4. Pinned Back

Pinning back the front and leaving the rest of my hair out is my favorite style because it looks put together even though there was minimal effort. I usually pin back just the front area and leave the sides free, but this look also wears beautifully with the full crown pinned in a headband style as shown above. The style works best on 2nd or 3rd-day hair, and all you need is a bit of water to bring your curls back to life and bobby pins.

5. Pineapple Ponytail

Who says the pineapple ponytail is just for sleeping? If you’re unfamiliar, piling all of your hair into a high ponytail on top of your head is what’s considered to be the pineapple ponytail. It’s commonly worn as a protective style overnight to keep curls frizz free, but it also doubles as a fun hairstyle during the day. To achieve the look, flip your hair upside down and loosely finger comb your curls to the highest point of your head, securing into a ponytail. From there, all you have to do is manipulate the curls to your liking so they fall to frame your face.

6. Messy Bun

The classic messy bun is a go-to hairstyle for every texture because of two reasons: it’s easy and it’s cute. To get the look, start by putting your hair into the pineapple ponytail. You can manipulate your hair into a messy bun using an extra hair tie to hold it all together. Use bobby pins to secure any excess flyaways and your simple hairstyle is complete!
