Would you wear griege lipstick?
What’s griege? Despite my personal woes over the spelling, griege is Maybelline’s latest concoction for a bold lipstick shade. Taking a cooler spin on the nude lip, griege is a mix between beige and grey. It’s the new brown lipstick, one that transitions well into Fall and is light enough to wear on a daily basis.
I was flipping through the latest issue of InStyle magazine and came across the above ad by Maybelline for their newest collection within the Color Sensational lipstick line. The model above is wearing a beautiful cool-toned deep taupe lipstick shade, so I immediately scanned the fine print for the name of the lipstick: Gone Griege. With liquid lipsticks and now lip gloss taking precedence in my makeup collection, it’s been a while since a lipstick has caught my attention. Maybelline’s Color Sensational ‘Gone Griege’ lipstick was enough to take me back to the lipstick love.
Maybelline’s Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds | The Promise
While at the store, I of course had to pick up the shade that piqued my interest. The thing about advertisements is knowing that a shade will likely show up on your skin tone differently than it does on the model. Because of that, I ended up purchasing the only two grey shades within the collection: Gone Griege and Grey Over It. So what’s so special about this lipstick besides the fun color selection?
- Maybelline claims The Loaded Bolds lip collection will deliver color intensity with one stroke.
- The formula includes honey nectar which leaves a creamy finish.
Maybelline Color Sensational Loaded Bolds | Swatches
Let’s get to the swatches. This time around, I only picked up two shades. As I mentioned before, I really just wanted to see how Gone Griege looked in person. I was pleasantly surprised to see a second, deeper grey option. The rest of the colors were pretty standard shades of red, pink, and coral, nothing I don’t already have in some form already. Even though I wanted to try them out for variety, I am still very much on this minimalist journey and asking myself if I really need and/or want a product before purchasing. Shown below are the two shades:
- Gone Griege – A grey lipstick with taupe undertones
- Grey Over It – A taupeish brown lipstick with deep grey undertones
First Impressions + Thoughts
I absolutely recommend picking up one of the Maybelline Color Sensational Matte lipsticks, particularly ones from The Loaded Bolds collection. Maybelline continues to create one of the most comfortable drugstore matte lipsticks, and the consistency of the loaded Bolds collection is smooth. The pigmentation is excellent, as the marketing suggests. With one swipe, each lipstick visibly appeared on my lips without having to apply multiple coats.
My one wish for Maybelline relates to the color selection. The grey+beige “griege” color Maybelline crafted this season is a beautiful revamp on the nude/neutral color. If you weren’t into the mauve nude lipstick, try out the cooler version this Fall and look for a nude lipstick with grey undertones.
These look great on you! I would love to try this trend but my undertones are way too warm to pull these colors off. Great blog btw.
Aww, thank you Courtney!
