Hi, I'm Chelsey

september
We are two weeks away from the beginning of Fall, ladies and gentlemen!

Sidenote: Did you guys ever watch the “Is It Fall Yet” Daria special? I loved Daria. I even searched for the box set online last year, but was turned off by the reviews stating they didn’t include the original music within each episode. Lame. Anyways, on to the post!

For years, I was an avid fashion magazine reader. Every month I’d go pick up the main fashion magazines: Seventeen, CosmoGirl, Elle, and Teen People as a teen; Nylon, Vogue, Elle, and Marie Claire as a young adult. I must admit that I’ve fallen off the consistency wagon in recent years, but I do still pick up the stray issue every month or so. These days, I gravitate more towards other blogs for style inspiration and Women’s Wear Daily for fashion news. That being said, I always, always, always purchase the September issues.

Why I Love September Issues

  • Fall fashion is my favorite fashion
  • They’re a gentle reminder that it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season
  • They’re incredibly thick in comparison to other months
  • They serve as a resource to curate my seasonal mood board

I am always surprised by just how heavy the September issues are, even though I know they’re big. Is that weird? Vogue alone is 858 pages–yes, I checked–but topped with InStyle and Elle, that totals over 2200 pages to lug from the magazine section up to the cash register. I spent a good amount of time flipping through each issue as well as ripping some pages out for my mood board, which will be featured in an upcoming post. While gawking at the gorgeous Fall ad campaigns, I took note of a few things that will be trendy this season. If flipping through 1000+ pages doesn’t tickle your fancy, here’s a brief overview of fall trends to look for:

Noteworthy Trends – The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

  • Fur Jackets
  • Monochromatic Ensembles
  • Green (seafoam, olive, kelly, etc.)
  • Aubergine
  • Short Hair
  • Colorful Print Mixing
  • Berry Lips
  • Snake Print
  • Fashion Sneakers
  • Crop Tops layered over Lengthy Tops

Overall, I like a lot of the trends that will be happening this season…I’m just going to pretend that fashion sneakers aren’t a thing. (Unfortunately according to NYFW, those and Birkenstocks aren’t leaving any time soon.) While I don’t follow trends, I do like to stay aware of what they are and provide tips on how to incorporate them into your own personal style. I don’t think anyone who knows their personal style “follows” trends in the traditional sense of the word…or at least I would hope not. I can’t even grasp the concept of needing to know the latest trend and going out to wear it because it’s on trend…does that make sense? The key to having style is making something your own whether it’s on trend or not; I just find fashion incredibly interesting and like to see what the main fashion picks of the season will be.

Which trends are you a fan of? Personally, I love the snake print and green trends.
