Hi, I'm Chelsey

quay-australia-mila-and-fall-outfit

So we’re finally knee deep into almost every fashion girl’s favorite season, and now what? If you’re like me, you’re probably spending it perusing the aisles of retail stores for autumn inspiration. It’s the best season for comfortably executing the layered look, but it can also get a little overwhelming because everything has potential during the fall.

To help provide some inspiration, below are four ways to dress for the autumn season regardless of where you’re headed. Each outfit features one trend I’m currently loving for the season, which I hope you’ll find helpful since you can see how I incorporate a trend into my own personal style. See if you can guess the trend from each look before reading the details!

The Work Look

Crop tops aren’t just for outside of the office, and that’s the first trend I’m sharing with you today. Crop tops can truly be worn anywhere if styled appropriately. The one featured here is the Erin Cropped Boxy Tee from Tobi, and falls slightly lower than most crop tops, which I appreciate. A visible midriff isn’t something to aim for in the office, so I paired it with high waisted trousers and ankle booties for a sophisticated monochromatic look.

The Daytime Look

Going out shopping for the day? This outfit is my second favorite look featured in today’s post and it’s all because of the fall trend: the utilitarian jacket. This style of jacket has been on my fall shopping list for a long time, but I’ve found it to be one of the hardest items to successfully purchase. More often than not, the olive utilitarian jacket is very stiff and lacks shape.

The jacket above was the answer to all my problems. It’s from Tobi and is the Spectrum Hooded Anorak Jacket. What made this one a winner is the material. Instead of having a rough and tough vibe, this softer version offers movement and shape thanks to its lightweight material and adjustable cinched waist. I styled it with a classic striped tee, lightwash jeans, and comfortable taupe boots for the perfect fall outfit. The leopard clutch adds a bit of “fashion” to the daytime look and mixes beautifully with the earthy jacket.

The Date Look

Am I the only one who automatically reaches for a skinny black pant when they want to go out at night? I’m partial to a fitted skirt or dress every now and then, but a tight pant paired with a nice blouse is my idea of a comfortably chic night outfit. To add a bit of the fall season into your night outfits, style your pants with a classic fall shade: maroon.

The maroon top featured above makes for a great going out top for those of us who don’t want to show too much skin. Ordered from Tobi, the My Answer to You Cold Shoulder Blouse provides subtle peeks of skin through the very trendy cut-out shoulder and keyhole details. I love the look of a printed clutch with earth tones, so I paired a leopard clutch with the outfit as a pop and kept the shoes neutral.

The Social Look

Looking for a fall-inspired outfit for a daytime lunch? This outfit is my personal favorite of the four and something I would wear to hang out with friends during the day. The fall trend for this casually cute look is the sweater dress. I’ve paired sweater dresses with over the knee boots in the past, so it was fun to try an ankle boot this time around. The taupe shade keeps the outfit within the neutral color palette, perfect for daytime.

This particular dress is the Lily Sweater Dress from Tobi.com. I generally like my dresses to fall mid-thigh to keep from feeling like the dress is wearing me rather than the other way around. This dress naturally falls right above my knees, so I simply pinned the back to accomodate my preference for a shorter dress and tied a denim jacket around my waist for stability. The jacket completed the casual look and feel that I was going for, while also serving a purpose.

Which fall outfit was your favorite?

Each trendy piece is classic enough to cross into multiple seasons and is available at Tobi.com, the online-only women’s boutique based in Los Angeles. This was my first experience with the online retailer and I have to say, I am impressed! I selected four items and they all arrived in tact and fit true to size, even with the slightly longer hemline on the sweater dress. I’m looking forward to incorporating these pieces, as well as other fall items, into my wardrobe over the next few months.
