Plants and/or Flowers

Fresh flowers work best because they have a naturally pleasant scent and add a true sense of life into the room; however, artificial flowers or plants can provide a similar visual impact with much less maintenance. Depending on your DIY spirit, you can even build your own artificial bouquet by picking up a variety of plants from a craft store to create one arrangement. The floral arrangement acts as the focal point on the coffee table, so the surrounding items should have complementary colors.

Candles

Candles are a must-have for the home. While flowers visually add life to a home, candles easily add a warm and inviting vibe depending on which scents you purchase. 3-wick candles are my personal favorite because I feel like they burn the best, but any candle size can create your desired ambiance. Aesthetically speaking, try to find a candle that’s packaged in colors that match your living room decor. If the scent you like has packaging that clashes with your theme, a candle holder can usually help pull the look together.

Books and/or Magazines

Using reading material as decor serves more than one function. Not only will books or magazines fill up space and balance out the existing decor, but they’re also readily available to read at your leisure. Not everyone wants to sit in front of a TV all day, so why not lounge around with a good book or get inspired with the latest fashion magazine?
