I could go on a tangent about how much my mom (and dad) mean to me, why they are my role models, and how I find myself wanting to hang out with them more and more the older I get…but let’s stay on topic and keep it tissue-free, okay? Today we’re talking about gifts. It can be extremely difficult to purchase gifts for your parents. In my experience, they will rarely provide a literal list of items to get.
To combat the “I don’t need anything” response, I’ve selected three universal product categories to choose from for your Mother’s Day gift. I’ve even included my top pick within the category that you can purchase for under $30. (Mom, I hope you aren’t reading this as your gift is one of the 3 items listed.)
1. Books
Who doesn’t love a good book? It’s so relaxing to decompress on a Sunday afternoon and get lost in a book. While your picks will vary based on what genre your mom enjoys, the safe and resourceful option is to purchase a modern cookbook. Your mom can reference it over the years, and you two could even cook something together using a few of the recipes.

2. Perfume
Aside from flowers, perfume is probably the most popular gift to purchase for Mother’s Day. It can be overwhelming in both price and variety, so play it safe by purchasing a travel size spray or rollerball in the scent you think your mom would love.

3. Candles
Candles are pleasant gifts to receive because they’re useful. This Mother’s Day, expand your mom’s palette with a candle from a brand she wouldn’t regularly purchase herself. Bonus points if the packaging is home decor approved!
