How to Style Dresses in the Winter

Have I mentioned my word of the year for 2017? It’s leap. I chose it because it’s the first word that came to mind, and it feels appropriate to all aspects of my life–style included. I’m very aware of my style at this point. I know what I like, what I don’t like, and what I tend to pair together. That being said, I still want to continuously expand my style this year. Rather than try to wear a trend that I know doesn’t fit my personal style, I’m focusing on maximizing my wardrobe by mixing and layering pieces to revamp a look.

This look was a little out of my comfort zone, but the end result came out great. I decided to carry a spring/summer dress into fall/winter by layering a graphic tee and leather jacket over the thinly strapped maxi dress. Hats have become a favorite accessory while my hair is straight for the season, so I added it to the outfit for a trendy touch. I normally wear sandals with a maxi dress to keep a somewhat bohemian and easygoing vibe, but the short boots are a more fitting choice for the season. If you live in a colder city, you can even try adding tights to keep your legs covered and protected from the cooler temperatures.

What’s your word of the year?

I think the outfit came out super cute! Love the shirt! Yes I am all about mixing and matching what I already have in my closet, I’m not big on getting the latest trends.

Thanks, Keoshia! Mixing what I already have is going to be an ongoing journey for me this year! I’m excited to see how it improves over the next few months as I minimize my closet.
