What I’m Wearing: Urban Outfitters tank (similar) | Topshop jeans | BlankNYC jacket | A.J. Morgan sunglasses | Steve Madden boots
Happy Monday! Today’s outfit post is all about the closet staples and how to style them for last minute events. Yesterday, I went to Austin to see what SXSW events we could get into. I originally wanted to check out an Urban Outfitters panel but changed it the night before to a Create & Cultivate panel followed by a visit to the Los Pollos Hermanos pop up restaurant. Because going to Austin was somewhat unplanned, I hadn’t thought of my outfit. So, what do you do when you’re heading somewhere last minute and don’t know what to wear?
Stick with the closet staples.
I previously shared how to look put together, and yesterday I followed 3 of those tips to ultimately create this look in no time. I knew I would end up taking pictures (because hello, it’s SXSW), so I wanted to wear a photogenic outfit. In addition to that, I kept the venue in mind. Austin is very chill with their sense of fashion so I usually keep it casual when visiting the city. The last factor in picking the outfit was the weather. Out of nowhere, the temperature dropped for literally just the day so I wanted to make sure I was warm.
With all that in mind, I decided to stick with the basics. You really can’t go wrong with a striped tee, denim, and leather. I added a flannel because my striped tee happens to be a tank, which isn’t appropriate for colder weather. If it warmed up a little throughout the day (it didn’t), I wanted the ability to take off my leather jacket yet maintain coverage.
As far as the makeup, I popped on my ‘Heathers‘ liquid lipstick from Anastasia Beverly Hills to top off the “put together” look. A red lip instantly boosts your overall outfit and makeup selection–it’s fail-proof. Although it was colder than expected, I really enjoyed myself at SXSW. Next year, I’d like to get more involved and attend events throughout the week, but we’ll see how that goes!
