Happy Halloween! Since the true date of Halloween falls on a Monday this year, I thought I’d put a little twist on the usual style post by recreating one of Rihanna’s iconic looks from this year wearing the YSL heart-shaped red coat. If you didn’t know, Rihanna is my favorite celebrity. I like her music, but I mostly love her style and her attitude. She’s a style icon so naturally, I wanted to recreate one of her looks. My friends and I originally were going to have a Halloween party so I wanted to wear the romper and belted thigh high boots outfit from her Anti World Tour as my costume. I ran out of time to figure out that costume because of my Hawaii vacation and we ended up scrapping the party idea, so instead I opted for shooting this simpler look for a festive post.
The red coat originally belonged to my sister over ten years ago, and it now sits in my closet alongside the other winter coats I’ll never wear because I live in Texas but I love too much to purge. Who would’ve thought it would come in handy for Halloween purposes? I paired it with a red cami underneath and my favorite Topshop denim shorts, all things that already existed in my closet. The only pieces I ordered to complete the look were the black strappy shoes from Aldo, the long clip-in extensions to recreate Rihanna’s gorgeous long weave, and the solid black cap. On my lips is Coloured Raine’s liquid lipstick in the shade Cherry Blossom, a known favorite of Rihanna’s and the perfect shade of red for brown skin. All in all, DIY costumes like this one are my favorite because each piece can still be worn separately outside of Halloween.
